Find the right balance of
view and privacy.
Solar shade fabrics come in a range of openness levels, from more see-through to more privacy. Visit our Omaha or Lincoln showrooms to see how different shades look and feel, and find the right balance for your space.
Made for Your Lifestyle
Solar shade fabrics are rated by "openness factor.” This is the percentage of the weave that lets light and visibility through. Higher means more view, lower means more privacy.
Higher Openness (10–14%)
A clearer view outside with reduced glare. Less privacy at night when the interior lights are on.
Medium Openness (5–7%)
A popular middle ground. Good daytime privacy with a clear view outside.
Lower Openness (1–3%)
More privacy with a softer view. Excellent glare control for spaces where privacy matters most.
Beaded Cord Loop
The standard control option. A gentle pull on the beaded chain raises or lowers the shade smoothly and precisely.
Cordless Lift
Push up to raise, pull down to lower. LiteRise® shades don’t have cords, offering a clean look that's safe for homes with kids and pets.
Retractable Wand
Shades with the UltraGlide® wand are neat, safe, and easy to operate.
Motorized Wand
A gentle pull or push on the SoftTouch® wand activates the motor. It’s completely battery-powered, so no wiring is needed.
PowerView® Automation
Control from your phone, tablet, remote, or voice. Set schedules, create scenes, and integrate with smart home systems like Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit.
Two Fabrics in One
With Duolite®, you can combine a more see-through screen fabric with a room-darkening liner on a single roller. Enjoy the view during the day, then lower the liner for privacy and darkness at night.
Dual Roller Shades
Two independent shades on one headrail, each with its own fabric and controls. Choose different openness levels for different times of day.
Beautiful, Sustainable Fabrics
GreenScreen Sea-Tex™ solar shades feature sustainable fabrics made from recovered shoreline plastic. Beautiful, eco-friendly, and available in five neutral tones.
Decorative Top Treatments
Conceal the fabric roll with a cassette or fascia for a clean, finished look.
Large Window Coverage
Solar shades fit windows up to 192" wide and 144" tall. This makes these solar shades ideal for large windows, sliding doors, and open floor plans.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I still see outside with solar shades?
Yes, with most of the fabric options. That’s what makes them unique. Unlike traditional shades, solar screens let you see outdoors while filtering light and UV rays. The amount of view-through depends on the shades you choose.
What openness should I choose?
It depends on your priorities. Openness factor is the percentage of the weave that lets light and visibility through. If you want a clear view, go higher (10–14%). If privacy matters more, go lower (1–3%). Most homeowners find 5% offers a good balance. Our designers can show you samples to help you decide.
Do solar shades provide privacy at night?
During the day, yes. People outside can’t see in. At night with lights on, the effect reverses. If nighttime privacy is important, consider Duolite® with a room-darkening liner, or choose a lower openness factor.
Are solar shades good for blocking heat?
Solar shades are not as energy-efficient as honeycomb shades or cellular roller shades. But they do help reduce heat gain by filtering sunlight before it enters the room. This can make spaces more comfortable and reduce cooling costs in summer.
How much do solar shades cost?
It depends on window size, fabric, and control options. We’ll give you an exact quote after measuring.
Can solar shades be motorized?
Absolutely. Choose SoftTouch® (a battery-powered wand) or PowerView® (app, remote, voice, and smart home integration).
What's the difference between solar shades and roller shades?
Both are roller-style shades, but solar shades use screen fabrics specifically designed to filter UV rays while allowing you to see outside. Traditional roller shades come in a wider range of fabrics, including opaques that fully block the view.
Do you install solar shades in Omaha and Lincoln?
Yes. We custom-measure and install all types of roller shades, including solar shades in Omaha, Lincoln, and the surrounding areas.
