How do motorized shades work?
Motorized shades have a quiet motor inside that you control with your phone, voice (Alexa, Google, Apple HomeKit), or a remote. You can even set schedules so they open automatically in the morning or close at sunset. No need to adjust them manually.
What motorization options are available?
We offer several systems depending on your needs. PowerView® Automation is our most popular — control with your phone, voice, or remote using rechargeable battery packs. SoftTouch® Motorization is simple, with a battery-powered wand that works with a gentle tug. PowerView+™ is hardwired directly to your home’s power for whisper-quiet, maintenance-free operation.
Do motorized blinds need to be plugged in?
Many don’t. PowerView® motorized shades use rechargeable battery packs that last for months between charges. PowerView+™ is hardwired for homes that want a completely hands-off system.
Can I add motorization to existing shades?
Motorization has to be built in when the shades are made, so we can’t add it to existing ones. But if you’re ready to replace your old shades, we can upgrade you to motorized versions.
What shade styles can be motorized?
Almost everything. Roller shades, cellular shades, Roman shades, woven wood shades — most Hunter Douglas styles work with motorization.
Are smart shades difficult to set up?
Not at all. We take care of everything from start to finish. During your design session, we’ll help you figure out which motorization system works best for your home and lifestyle. If you’re building or remodeling, we can plan ahead for hardwired power during the design phase. Then our installers set up the whole system, connect it to your phone, and walk you through how it works. The app is simple to use, and creating schedules takes just a few taps.
